The Fallas are fast approaching and in March comes the moment awaited by so many Valencians and tourists who come from all over the world to Valencia.

From of us at ‘Soleã’ we want to let you know the best ways to enjoy these festivities as tourists’, and help you get into the spirit of Fallas.

First of all, during this period you should know that you will be able to enjoy the city without traffic on the roads. Many are the streets become pedestrianized and vehicles are forbidden to circulate. If you were planning to drive your car during this period, whether it be a long road trip from your country or a car rental, we would recommend that you think twice before deciding, because in many cases you will not be able to drive it.

Also, you should know that the population of the city during the week of triples, so if you are one of those people who enjoy a nice cold beer on a sunny terrace or bar, and you do not like to wait around for drinks to be brought to you, we recommend that you buy your drinks in a supermarket and enjoy them sat down in the spectacular ‘Turia River Park’. This way, you are guaranteed to enjoy yourselves without the rush and hustle of a busy bar.

Another important thing to think about is whether you are the type of person who finds it difficult to sleep with loud music and fireworks closeby. We recommend that you don’t drink too much coffee during the day and rent a flat or villa in a village near Valencia. There are many “verbenas” and “casales falleros” that play music in almost every neighborhood of the city until 4 in the morning. If on the other hand you are night owls and you love a good dance, don’t go home until everything is closed. This way you will enjoy all that the Fallas have to offer and you will be able to sleep peacefully when you (finally) get to your apartment.

Of course, you will have to be more than ready for the fireworks and constant explosions. Every step you take around you will make you think Spain has gone to war. You must know that to be exemplary tourists it must seem normal to you and that it does not bother you at all. It’s very important, don’t cover your ears and don’t look scared either. Remember that it is something completely habitual for the lovers of the Fallas and for them it is something amusing. Try not to look too surprised at the way they have fun. Remember that you want to be part of this party!
Also, during “the Mascletás” you have to act in a very similar way. You will have to put on a face of amazement and emotion when you hear the piercingly loud explosions each day and every day for 5 minutes. We recommend that you do not cover your ears during the Mascletás, of course, if you do you will not come across as being very ‘falleros’. Of course, look up at the sky to see how the smoke from the pyrotechnical explosions disappears little by little, and be sure to put back a face of pride and emotion.

Finally, on the last day of the Fallas you will find the whole city surrounded by fire. This is called “The Crema” and with this show the Fallas will be over. During “The Crema” you will observe that many are the falleros and falleras that exteriorize their sadness for the end of the festivities, because they will have to wait 1 year to be able to live them again. At that time, if you want to sympathize with them, it is best to look sad and if possible, shed some tears. It will seem much more real.

To conclude, we will end by saying that it is not always easy for the Fallas and the people of Valencia to live together. In spite of the different opinions regarding these festivities we must say that this is part of the experience of studying a language. The culture and traditions brought by the Fallas are also part of it and therefore we invite you to get to know what it’s all about and judge them for yourselves. Fallas, consejos para disfrutarlas como buenos turistas

Las Fallas se acercan junto al mes de marzo y con ellas llega el momento más esperado por muchos valencianos y turistas que vienen de muchas partes de España y del mundo a Valencia.

Desde Soleã queremos aconsejaros qué hacer para disfrutar de estas fiestas como turistas ejemplares y ayudaros a integraros en el espíritu fallero.

En primer lugar, durante este periodo debéis saber que podréis disfrutar de la ciudad sin coches. Muchas son las calles que se convierten en peatonales y los vehículos tiene prohibida la circulación. Si pensáis venir en coche durante esas fechas desde vuestro país, os recomendamos que no lo hagáis, pues aunque queráis, no lo vais a poder utilizar.

También, debéis saber que la población durante la semana de fallas es tres veces mayor de lo normal, con lo que si sois de las personas que disfrutan de unas buenas cervecitas en una terraza de un bar y no os gusta mucho esperar para que os traigan esa cervecita, os recomendamos que compréis la bebida en un supermercado y os sentéis a beberlas en el río Turia. De esta forma, la rapidez y la tranquilidad estará más garantizada.

Otro dato importante es que si os resulta difícil habitualmente conciliar el sueño por la noche, no toméis mucho café durante el día y alquilaos un piso o casita en un pueblo cercano a Valencia. Existen muchas verbenas y casales falleros que ponen música por casi todos los barrios de la ciudad hasta las 4 de la mañana. Si por otro lado sois amantes de la noche y os encanta bailar, no volváis a casa hasta que cierren todo. De esta forma disfrutaréis de la noche fallera y podréis dormir plácidamente al llegar a vuestro piso.

Por supuesto, tendréis que estar más que preparados para los petardos. Cada paso que se da a vuestro alrededor pensaréis que España ha entrado en guerra. Debéis saber que para ser turistas ejemplares os tiene que parecer algo normal y que no os molesta en absoluto. Muy importante, no os tapéis los oídos ni tampoco parezcáis asustados. Recordad que es algo completamente habitual para los amantes de las fallas y para ellos es algo divertidísimo. Intentad no parecer muy sorprendidos de la forma que tiene de divertirse. Recordad que queréis integraros en estas fiestas.

Además, durante “las Mascletás” tenéis que actuar de forma muy similar. Tendréis que poner cara de asombro y emoción al escuchar día tras día explosiones en el aire durante 5 minutos. Os aconsejamos que no os tapéis los oídos durante las Mascletás, claro está que si lo hacéis no pareceréis muy falleros. Por supuesto mirad hacia el cielo para contemplar cómo el humo de las explosiones pirotécnicas desaparece poco a poco. Por supuesto, volved a poner cara de orgullo y emoción.

Para terminar, el último día de las Fallas encontraréis toda la ciudad rodeada de fuego. Esto se llama “La Cremá” y con este espectáculo se dan por terminadas las Fallas. Durante “la Cremá” observaréis que muchos son los falleros y falleras que exteriorizan su tristeza por el fin de las fiestas, pues tendrán que esperar 1 año para poder volver a vivirlas. En ese momento, si queréis simpatizar con ellos, lo mejor es que parezcáis tristes y si es posible, derraméis alguna lágrima. Parecerá mucho más real.

Para concluir, terminaremos diciendo que no siempre es fácil la convivencia entre las Fallas y los vecinos y vecinas de Valencia. A pesar de las distintas opiniones respecto a estas fiestas debemos decir que eso forma parte de la experiencia de estudiar un idioma. Su cultura y sus tradiciones también forman parte de ella y  por ello os invitamos a que las conozcáis y juzguéis por vosotros y vosotras mismas. Seguro que no os dejarán indiferentes.
